Bamboo-made bicycles, furniture, storage containers, and an array of other eco-friendly products stole the spotlight at the 2023 China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS), held in Beijing from September 2 to 6.
These captivating displays were brought to life by the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization, a group dedicated to reducing global carbon dioxide emissions by substituting plastic products with bamboo alternatives.
One particular highlight was the Sichuan Vanov New Material Co., Ltd. booth, where they showcased their revolutionary bamboo-fiber paper brand, “Babo.” In a groundbreaking collaboration with Starbucks in 2021, the company crafted innovative materials by blending coffee grounds with natural bamboo fiber. This partnership enabled the renowned U.S. coffee giant to drastically curtail carbon dioxide emissions associated with its packaging materials.
Huang Manqi, a representative at the Vanov booth, expressed their aspirations at CIFTIS, stating, “We aim to find like-minded partners who share our vision of sustainable, low-carbon development to collectively safeguard our home, Earth.”
This year’s CIFTIS saw a convergence of Chinese and international participants, all committed to the common cause of reducing global carbon emissions, driven by their shared commitment to green development.
According to a report unveiled during the event, green development in global trade services is now the prevailing trend and holds significant promise and potential. The report also underscored the deepening of international exchanges and cooperation in the pursuit of carbon dioxide reduction.
One notable participant is Veolia, a French multinational enterprise specializing in water, waste, and energy management. Since its entry into China in the early 1990s, Veolia has made substantial contributions to the country’s ecological transformation.
Green development and ecological transformation form pivotal aspects of China’s international interactions and collaborations worldwide. During a forum at CIFTIS, Huang Xiaojun, Senior Vice President of Veolia China, emphasized the circular economy as a crucial avenue for achieving green development. This approach promotes resource conservation and reuse, which is fundamental to sustainable practices.
Huang stated, “Veolia is committed to working with diverse stakeholders in China to usher in a green and low-carbon transition, thereby safeguarding our magnificent planet.”
Amazon, an innovative technology giant, has reiterated its dedication to utilizing digital solutions to empower industries in their pursuit of sustainable development.
Marco Su, a Senior Manager in the Greater China Region of Amazon Web Services, emphasized the environmental benefits of their cloud technology. “Enterprise customers can significantly reduce their carbon footprint by migrating their operations to the cloud,” Su explained. Amazon’s cloud technology currently achieves an 80% reduction in carbon footprints for customers, with aspirations to elevate that figure to 96% by 2025.
In conclusion, the 2023 CIFTIS witnessed a remarkable collaboration between Chinese and international enterprises in their shared mission to combat carbon emissions and promote green development through innovative and sustainable practices.
