From Local to Global: The Critical Role of the Chinese Market in Our Business Evolution

According to Toyota Motor’s President, Koji Sato, the company’s performance in the Chinese market is crucial for their transformation, given that China leads the world in car electrification and intelligence. At the recent Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, Toyota unveiled two bZ series models that will be launched in the Chinese market next year, as well as hydrogen engine models.

Sato stated that Toyota plans to promote the popularity of current EVs, strengthen hybrid vehicle sales in global markets, including emerging markets, and increase plug-in hybrid vehicle options. Additionally, the company aims to expand their BEV lineup in the next few years and accelerate the development of pure electric vehicles, given the global push for carbon neutrality and fierce competition in the new energy vehicle market. Toyota plans to introduce 10 BEV models and raise annual global BEV sales to 1.5 million units by 2026.

Sato emphasized that Toyota is committed to developing next-generation BEVs, promoting the mass production of commercial fuel cell electric vehicles, and continuing to develop hydrogen engine technologies. The company plans to deepen cooperation with partners across industries and countries to promote the utilization of hydrogen energy and the realization of a hydrogen society. In terms of new energy vehicle manufacturing, Toyota plans to provide diverse options to customers based on the future energy situation and unique realities in each region.
