On Saturday, the 100th China-Europe freight train departed from Shanghai, carrying 55 containers of cargo that included air conditioners, forklifts, and fabrics. Since September 2021, when Shanghai launched its China-Europe freight train service, it has handled over 9,900 TEUs of goods with a total weight of about 80,000 tonnes and worth 3.12 billion yuan (approximately 453.8 million U.S. dollars) through these trains, according to Shanghai Customs. The train will leave China via Erenhot Port in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
Shanghai currently operates ten freight cargo routes, connecting it with 24 European countries and five Asian countries. During the initial stage of the China-Europe freight train service, over 400 categories of exported goods, such as clothing, shoes and hats, glassware, and auto parts, were transported. The service has since expanded to include more than 1,300 categories of products like photovoltaic cells, automobiles, motorcycles, elevators, and LCD panels.
